Avocado Milkshake

The cookbook chapter I’m working on has a section on milkshakes and smoothies to help patients get in extra calories and protein. While the recipes are intended for someone trying to gain or maintain a healthy weight, they could easily be adapted for someone on a lower-calorie plan by swapping skim for whole milk and using frozen yogurt instead of ice cream.

Here is a recipe for an avocado milkshake, courtesy of Chris. Avocados are one of his favorite foods, and we just so happened to have a gorgeous, perfectly ripe one at the ready. He thought a milkshake would be the perfect way to enjoy it. I have to give him credit for this one. I wouldn’t have thought to try it, but it’s going in the book.

Avocado Milkshake

Ingredients:

½ an avocado

½ cup milk

½ cup vanilla ice cream

1 tsp sugar

4 ice cubes

Directions:
Blend ingredients until smooth.

Garnish with a strawberry if desired.

  1. MmmMm. My sisters and I always ask if they’ll make Avocado shakes when we visit the philippines! That is if we’re not in the mood for mango!

  2. Mango sounds really good too!
